Information
The implicitness with which men determine the lives, welfare, and the fate of women in disturbingly shocking ways is the thematic core of this opera by Benjamin Britten. This age-old story is told through the eyes of the demure Roman, Lucretia. Her steadfast morals in a time of depravity lead her to commit suicide after being raped by the Etruscan Prince, Tarquinius. This stirring story about love, power, and faith is still timely and moving.
