L'amour de loin

A fairy-tale love story: Besotted solely by the tales of a pilgrim, Jaufré falls in love with the faraway Clémence. Without having ever seen her before, he sings the praises of her beauty and virtue. Clémence hears of these songs from the pilgrim, and she, too, falls in love. Both of them are anxious about meeting each other, though, for fear that their dreams and desires may be obliterated by reality. Finally, Jaufré sets off with the pilgrim on the long journey to Tripoli. Whilst at sea, he becomes deathly ill; as he finally sinks into the arms of his lover, he dies.
