Information
The evident drama: Mélisande is married to Golaud, but falls in love with his half-brother Pelléas, who reciprocates her feelings – a love triangle with a lethal conclusion. The hidden drama: the failure of all communication. – Claude Debussy’s internally blazing opera score of “drame statique” by Maurice Maeterlinck creates an alternative œuvre to Richard Wagner as regards music and antedates Samuel Becket as regards content: absolutely fabulous theatre!
