Lyric scenes by Peter I. Tschaikowsky
In 1833 Alexander Pushkin published his universally acclaimed verse novel, Eugene Onegin, and thereby ushered in the era of the great, realistic, poetic novel. In 1879 Peter lljich Tchaikovsky composed an operatic rendition of Pushkin’s bored Russian dandy and intellectual, who confronts people and their feelings with sarcasm. The lush Russian romantic score, elegiac and spacious, is the perfect musical setting, allowing the characters to devote themselves entirely to their projections of love.
