Information
Rome, in June of the year 1800. The struggle between revolution and restoration pits the freedom-loving painter Cavaradossi and Rome’s sadistic chief of police Baron Scarpia against each other as bitter enemies. What fuels Scarpia’s hatred even more than politics, though, is the painter’s love for the celebrated singer Floria Tosca. He has Cavaradossi arrested and tortured and arranges for his execution to force Tosca to submit to him. Tosca seems to consent to Scarpia’s wishes to save the life of the man she loves most.
