Information
Richard Strauss' and Hugo von Hofmannsthal's comic opera Der Rosenkavalier transcends the boundaries of time and space with refreshing ease. The work is set in the specific era of Viennese rococo. But thanks to Strauss' haunting music and Hofmannsthal's lively text, the piece also strikes at the heart of modern and contemporary people. This is because the tried-and-tested and popular comedy topoi, which tells the story of how youth puts an older lover and his inappropriate desires in their place, is only used as a starting point to pose universal questions that everyone has to answer anew for themselves: When do you stop being young? How do I preserve or change my own identity as time goes on? Or how do I find the strength to let youth go its own way?
Following the great success of Die Frau ohne Schatten, Artistic Director Hermann Schneider and Chief Conductor Markus Poschner are once again teaming up for a major work by Richard Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier.
