Information

"I am not a friend and I am not a servant. I am the cat that walks alone." - a very clear answer that the cat gives when humans want to tame it. How is it that cats are amiable, fluffy, trusting and, as mousers, also reliable, and yet they don't let anyone tell them anything? How is it possible to be half free and half wild? And how can humans and animals live together with their different ideas of freedom?

Rudyard Kipling, the creator of The Jungle Book, explained the world to his children with just-so tales, including the one about the cat that went its own way. In these fantastic stories, their wondrous ideas and sometimes philosophical reflections on the course of the world, a profound, humorous, playful explanation can be found for every aspect of man and animal, no matter how outlandish. Based on these stories, Mike Svoboda and Anne-May Krüger have developed an opera (not only suitable for children) that humorously and poetically celebrates togetherness and individuality.
