After a heart attack, star conductor Daniel Daréus returns to the village of his childhood, Ljusåker in northern Sweden. Because of his pseudonym, no one there recognises the comrade from his elementary school days. Reluctantly at first, he takes over the leadership of the church choir and inspires its colourful members with his unconventional methods. But not everyone in the village likes the fresh wind blowing through the village: Gabriella's violent husband Conny and the bitter-ascetic priest Stig each fight in their own way to restore the old "order". Against all odds, the group, which has grown in number, travels to Vienna for a choir competition.
Sweden's best-known film was rewritten into a moving musical by screenwriter Kay Pollak himself and provided with feather-light music by Fredrik Kempe. The play ran en suite in Stockholm for two years until the Corona crisis and was enthusiastically celebrated there. The Landestheater Linz succeeded in obtaining the rights for the German-language premiere of this hit musical - musical director Matthias Davids directs.
